Foundation Launches Thank a Teacher Campaign

09/23/2019

Kearney Public Schools Foundation launched its first Thank a Teacher Campaign to benefit the classroom teachers of the district. Through its online giving software, the Foundation made it easy for parents, businesses or anyone to direct a gift to any of the 441 teachers in the district.
With a goal of providing every teacher with a gift to enhance their classroom supplies, activities, or other materials, the KPS Foundation board worked to seek sponsorships to guarantee teachers who serve students from lower economic schools wouldn’t be left out.
The sponsors include area businesses such as Affiliated Brokers Insurance, Runza, the Buckle, the Kearney Chamber of Commerce, DMilaco’s, Heartland Bank, Copycat Printing, Computer Hardware, Click Family healthcare, and Fisher Roofing.
One very special sponsor, the Kearney Noon Kiwanis, pledged to match gifts to Elementary School Teachers up to $3,000. Parents and the community achieved that goal with $3115 in a two-week period.
“We want every teacher to know that we value their commitment to teaching Kearney’s children” said Jon Watts Board President of the KPS Foundation. “To help achieve that, the KPS Foundation has committed its first Endowment revenue to the campaign. The KPS Foundation started its endowment in 2013 and while it is still relatively small, we want the teachers of Kearney Public Schools to see the first benefit from these investments.”
With five days remaining in the campaign before teachers are presented with their gifts on September 30, there is still time for more teachers to be thanked.
